The Old Treasury Building

This week I was in Melbourne with my wife and we dropped in to visit the Old Treasury Building Museum. The building was built with the wealth that the Gold rush brought to Victoria following the discovery in 1851. Now set up as a great museum into the past it once was the storage for gold bullion. It's a great insight into the past of Victoria and Melbourne and includes a number of displays, multi media presentations and photgraphs.

The buidling was designed by a 19 year old Government architect, JJ Clark and was constructed between 1858 and 1862. When you see the building it's not very surprising really that it kick-started JJ's career.

If you're in the city and have some time on your hands pop in and take a look at the past. It's at 20 Spring Street (Top of Collins St) and better still it's free. Enjoy!
